Maintaining health and wellbeing through disaster recovery

Australian Red Cross who had already partnered with Hummingly for a nationwide roll-out of the Cards for Calamity into disaster-affected communities, has recently expanded its partnership with Hummingly to include the Doing Well cards. Australian Red Cross are using these cards to support their own teams as they manage increasingly complex workloads and face the risk of burn-out in their own lives.

Australian Red Cross has recently expanded its partnership with Hummingly to include the Doing Well cards. They are using these cards to support their own teams as they manage increasingly complex workloads and face the risk of burn-out in their own lives.

The Doing Well cards are backed by science and share tips and tricks to help those with a vital role supporting disaster-affected communities to look after themselves and others, both in times of acute stress and as they manage the day-to-day challenges that come their way.

Australian Red Cross recognizes the risks to the health and wellbeing of those with a role in disaster recovery. The Doing Well deck enables every team member to create a personalized protective plan to support their wellbeing as they support others in incredibly challenging environments. And the cards are also used within teams and in efforts to support local leaders assisting communities in the wake of disaster – a powerful tool for sustaining and preventing harm for the supporters.

“Our people are working in some very complex and challenging environments. We know that if we don’t look after our people, they can’t do their best work. The Doing Well cards are a great boost. They are effective, simple to use, and it’s one way our staff and volunteers know we are supporting them to support others.”
