Guest Speaker Dr Kate Brady

Dr. Kate Brady is a disaster recovery nerd with a ‘thing’ for knowledge translation. She believes that there is great evidence from research and lived experience that could be better shared to improve outcomes for people affected by disasters and others who are experiencing disruption and upheaval.

Kate has a PhD in Public Health with a focus on disaster recovery. She is the National Recovery Adviser for Australian Red Cross Emergency Services and is a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne Centre for Child and Community Wellbeing.

Guest Speaker Sally McKay

With over 25 years of leadership in disaster recovery across Oceania, Asia, and the Pacific, Sally McKay stands as a trailblazer in the field. Her journey is marked by a relentless commitment to fostering resilient communities and driving impactful change.

Sally's accolades, include the Australian Red Cross Meritorious Service Award for her pivotal role during the Victorian Bushfires in January 2009. Her service during the Hunter and Central Coast floods in 2007 was recognized with a commendable medal from the Government of NSW. Sally was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for Disaster Recovery Work in 2004-2005. 

A visionary leader, Sally has successfully managed disaster operations, spearheaded bushfire recovery efforts, and played a pivotal role in allocating economic recovery grants. Her expertise spans emergency management, infrastructure rehabilitation, housing solutions, economic revitalization, grants management, and community development.

Guest Speaker Richard MacGeorge

Meet Richard MacGeorge a visionary in global infrastructure development.

With a career spanning continents and impacting lives across 40 countries, Richard MacGeorge stands as a leader in the world of infrastructure. Formerly a World Bank financier, Richard's expertise has propelled him to the forefront of development projects that shape the world we live in.

As the General Manager of Infrastructure at the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, amidst the challenging recovery, he reimagined Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory, integrating it into infrastructure development. Richard's journey continued as he became the Lead Infrastructure Finance Specialist within the Financial Solutions unit of the World Bank Group.

He returned to New Zealand in 2020 to contribute to New Zealand's infrastructure strategy and pursue a PhD in Futures Studies.
